Wärtsilä JV in China Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Factory

Industrial PRIME | October 29, 2015

This Wednesday, CSSC Wärtsilä Engine (Shanghai) Co. Ltd (CWEC) celebrated the commencement of its new factory construction with a groundbreaking ceremony.

Following the ceremony, strategic cooperation agreements were signed between CWEC and the Hudong Zhonghua and Shanghai Waigaoqia shipyards.

In addition, CWEC signed a Letter of Intent with Shanghai Waigaoqia for the future delivery of Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 generating sets for three large container vessels being built at the yard.

The new 20,000-square metre facility, located at Lingang, Shanghai, will be the first in China to produce and deliver locally large bore medium speed diesel and dual-fuel engines. CSSC Group and other Chinese yards will thus be provided with closer access to the Wärtsilä range of engines.

The production capacity of the new factory is planned at 180 engines per year. The first engines are expected to be ready for delivery in 2016.
