Meyer Turku Wins Order for Two Large Cruise Ships from Royal Caribbean

Industrial PRIME | October 11, 2016

Meyer Turku and Royal Caribbean Cruises have signed a memorandum of agreement for the construction of two next-generation cruise ships.

The 200,000-GT ships will mark the beginning of a new generation of LNG-powered cruise ships. They will feature a number of innovations, including the application of energy-efficient fuel cells in power generation.

The ships will be delivered in 2022 and 2024. This is yet another contract extending Meyer Turku’s order book, which now reaches all the way until 2024.

According to Meyer Turku, the impressive order book creates a unique opportunity for the shipyard as well as the entire Finnish maritime cluster to create a long-term strategy and invest in and develop their capabilities and technologies.

Meyer Turku has so far announced investments worth €75 million in the modernization of the Turku shipyard. Further investments are on the drawing board.
