Both vessels, designed to operate globally, will feature two 4.2-megawatt Azipod D electric propulsion units (pictured right) that will help the vessels safely achieve millimetre precision at open sea, while substantially increasing the vessels’ fuel efficiency.
In addition, ABB’s Onboard DC Grid will cut fuel consumption by up to 27% and allow the vessels’ four 3,600kW generators (also supplied by ABB) to operate at variable and optimum speeds.
Finally, the vessels will also be equipped with batteries that will further optimize the use of the power plant and reduce energy consumption, as well as with ABB’s Remote Diagnostic Service, a system connecting the vessels to ABB’s shore side technical support centres.
The vessels are designed by Norway-based Cefront Technology and will be built by COSCO.
